There are many benefits to learning to play the game of golf, and having fun is just one of them. In addition learning to play golf for your health is a great start to answering the question. It’s a very healthy sport with all the walking – you don’t need to rent a cart when you can walk the beautiful pathways and greens. Walking increases your heart rate and so does swinging at the ball with a club. Hence it is good for your cardiovascular system. Here are basic considerations to bear in mind (From Golf Canada: http://www.rcga.org/_uploads/documents/EasyGuide-ENG.pdf)

Golf Course Management & Etiquette

First of all golf is played, for the most part, without
the supervision of a referee or umpire.
Therefore, the game relies on the individual to
show consideration for other players
and to play by the Rules. This is especially relevant – all players
should show courtesy and sportsmanship
at all times, no matter how competitive
they may be. This is the spirit of the game of golf.
1.
Make sure no one is near you when
you swing your club.
2.
Make sure no one is in front of you
and make sure the group in front
is clearly out of range before you
make a shot.
3.
Always shout “Fore” when your ball
is in danger of hitting someone.
4.
Do not stand directly behind the player,
the ball or the hole when a player is
making a stroke.
5.
If you’re playing with people you
don’t know, introduce yourself on
the first tee.
6.
After finishing play and leaving the
last green, thank them for their com-
pany and shake their hand.
